PSNI Riot Squad Suppress Protest

On June 27th 2009 éirígí led opposition in Ireland to Britain's inaugural 'Armed Forces Day'. In Belfast the riot squad of the paramilitary PSNI suppressed the right to free movement and the right to free assembly. Upwards of 120 éirígí activists and supporters were prevented from approaching Belfast City Hall – above which Britain's 'Armed Forces Day' flag flew. Click here for more.

In the run-up to Britain's inaugural 'Armed Forces Day' éirígí released a video encouraging people to oppose this official 'celebration' of Britain's murderous military. The video featured not only images of the British military and their political masters, but also a selection of the many thousands of victims of British imperialism.
