#TrackTheVultures
Tracking the Corporate takeover of irish housing
Running Total - 38,314 Vulture-Owned Homes
Last updated 20/06/22
Welcome to the #TrackTheVultures project. The people of Ireland deserve to know the full extent of the vulture takeover of Irish housing. They deserve access to a free, public database that shows them all the Irish housing developments that are already owned by vulture landlords.
By late 2020 no government agency, private company, political party, academic, housing organisation, media outlet or other entity had built such a database. And so Éirígí launched the #TrackTheVultures project.
This in an ongoing project, with new information being added as it becomes available, so be sure to check back regularly to keep yourself fully informed of the vulture takeover of Irish housing.
Track The Vultures Map - How To Use It
Above you can see Ireland’s first interactive vulture tracking map. It is best viewed in the full screen format (click the icon on the map) and in the landscape setting if using a smart phone. There are three icons on the map - vultures, cranes and green ticks.
Click on a vulture icon to view an existing housing development that people are already paying extortionate rents to live in. The image that pops up will tell you the name of the development, the number of vulture-owned homes and the name of the vulture landlord. The current total for this category is 17,096 homes.
Click on a crane icon to view a vulture housing development that is currently under construction. The image that pops up will tell you the name of the development, the number of vulture-owned homes and the name of the vulture landlord. Some of these sites are being developed directly by vulture landlords while others have been forward purchased from Irish developers by the vultures. The current total for this category is 9,233.
Click on a green tick icon to view a vulture housing development that has been granted planning permission. The image that pops up will tell you the name of the development, the number of vulture-owned homes and the name of the vulture landlord or developer that secured planning permission. These developments include those that were granted permission as Build To Rent (which can only be owned by vulture landlords) as well as non-BTR developments that are destined for vulture landlord ownership. The current total for this category is 11,985.
Want More Information?
All of the pop-up images from the Track The Vultures map can be viewed in a larger format by scrolling down this page. The caption that accompanies each image includes the address of the development as well as relevant additional information in some cases.
All of the information on the database was sourced from the vulture landlord’s own press releases, websites and annual reports, as well as from reliable media and industry sources. If you want more information in relation to any aspect of the Track The Vultures project please email info@eirigi.org
How You Can Help
Éirígí has been to the fore of highlighting and pushing back against the vulture takeover of housing for several years. Unlike many government and opposition parties we don’t believe that there is any place in Irish society for the vulture landlords.
So we’re campaigning for an outright ban on the corporate ownership of housing. We also want to see all of the housing that is currently owned by the vulture landlords brought into public ownership as part of a new system of Universal Public Housing.
If you like our analysis and our ideas please share our content on social media and use the hashtag #TrackTheVultures to help other people see what’s really going on in Irish housing.
The #TrackTheVultures project is just one element of the wider work that Éirígi activists are doing on the issue of housing. Defeating the vulture takeover of housing will not deliver housing justice on its own. We also need to develop a new system of Universal Public Housing to permanently end the housing crisis and transform Irish society for the better. Read more about UP Housing here.
People all across Ireland are already joining us to fight for housing justice and a New Republic. If you’re ready to join the fight you can do so here.
