Breandán Mac Cionnaith Condemns 'Outrageous' Land Grab Threat

Breandán Mac Cionnaith has condemned the proposed annexing of additional Palestinian lands by Israel. The Éirígí For A New Republic spokesperson was responding to a speech by the Israeli Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, in which he outlined his intention to annex the Jordan Valley and northern Dead Sea areas of the West Bank if re-elected to office.

Speaking from Portadown, Co Armagh, Mac Cionnaith said,

“The threat by Netanyahu to annex large tracts of Palestinian lands is outrageous and inflammatory in the extreme. The fact that this threat came in the final week of a general election campaign shows just how far he is willing to go to maintain his grip on power.

It is abundantly clear that Netanyahu has no real interest in peace or a lasting, just settlement with the Palestinian people. Instead he is intend on achieving an absolute victory through the creeping annexation of Palestinian land.

The threat to annex the Jordan Valley and the continuous expansion of illegal settlements is part of a broader strategy to reduce the amount of land that is available for a future Palestinian state until it falls below the point of viability. This strategy cannot be allowed to succeed.

Éirígí condemns the threat to annex the Jordan Valley and calls for an escalation of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign against the Israeli state. The Dublin government needs to use its influence within the European Union and the wider global community to bring meaningful pressure to bear on a the rogue state that is Israel.”
