Windsor Visit – Join The Protests Or Organise Your Own!
The Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin have released the full itinerary for the state visit of the so-called ‘British Queen’ to the Twenty-Six Counties. While Éirígí are organising major protests at the Garden of Remembrance and the Dublin Castle events, there are numerous other opportunities for groups and individuals to organise their own protests in opposition to the Windsor visit.
In addition to the events listed below, the roads along which Windsor will travel can be easily identified by the distinctive yellow paint which has been sprayed on their lampposts, drains and manhole covers as part of the pre-visit security operation. The freshly-painted road markings and newly replaced road signage along these routes make them all the more distinctive.
For example, the route from Casement Aerodrome to Dublin City Centre can be traced along the R136 Dublin Outer Ring Road and onto the N4 heading into Dublin City Centre. This route will take Windsor within a stone’s throw of Bawnogue and south Lucan before heading through Palmerstown into the city centre.
Similarly, the proposed route that the Windsor cavalcade will take to Croke Park, the Garden of Remembrance, Trinity College, Dublin Castle and all other locations in Dublin are easily identified by their yellow paint and scrubbed up appearance.
Everyone has a role to play in building a campaign of mass opposition to the Windsor visit. One person holding an anti-royal visit placard, two people waving tricolours, three people chanting anti-royal slogans, four people blowing whistles, five people banging bin lids, an entire district united in protest. No gesture is too small, no protest too great.
The people of Dublin, Kidare, Tipperary and Cork don’t need Éirígí or any other political organisation to organise their protests. You now know when and where Windsor will be. Protest, protest, protest!
