No Royal Visit Protest Donnycarney, North Dublin
On Saturday, April 2, 15 members and supporters of Éirígí held a No Royal Visit protest in Donnycarney on Dublin’s Northside.
The protest, which began at 12pm, was welcomed by passers by and by motorists who honked their car horns to show their support.
In a show of strength the Gardaí had a heavy presence at the protest, including four car loads of the secret political police, who keep the protesters under surveillance for the duration of the event.
Speaking at the protest, Éirígí spokesperson Ciarán Heaphey said: “So long as Britain claims illegal jurisdiction over any part of Ireland, No welcome should be afforded to the British establishment by the people of Ireland.
“Today's protest sends the simple message, ‘No British Withdrawal – No Royal Visits!’
“In the weeks ahead Éirígí will be taking to the streets to build the opposition and resistance to the British Royal visit and we call on all republican and lists to get involved with the protests and demonstrations that will be organised.”
