Galway 'Power To The People' Public Meeting Announced For Monday, November 14th

Éirígí Gaillimh has announced that Cathaoirleach Éirígí Brian Leeson will speak at a ‘Power To The People’ public meeting in Galway City on Tuesday, November 14th. Speaking from Galway City ahead of the meeting, the republican party’s local representative, Ian Ó Dalaigh said,

“Éirígí Galway is delighted to host a ‘Power To The People’ meeting in the city, the second in a series of such meetings that Éirígí will be organising across Ireland over the next couple of months. The presentation that Brian Leeson will deliver will give people a huge amount of information about the giveaway of our renewable energy resources and the steps that need to be taken to stop it.

The giveaway our renewable energy resources should be of particular interest to the people of Galway as the next phase of that giveaway is going to see Big Energy building huge offshore wind farms all along the Atlantic coastline.

Ian Ó Dálaigh outside The Green Party offices in Galway City. Only the public ownership of wind energy will deliver a low carbon economy, energy security and affordable energy for Irish homes and businesses.

Under the government’s current plans the Big Energy corporations will own these wind farms and the billions of euros of electricity that they will flow from them. Those same plans will see the people of Ireland buying that electricity from Big Energy at extortionate prices, just as today we are paying extortionate prices to Big Energy for the natural gas from our own Corrib Gas Field.

If managed properly, the offshore Atlantic wind farms could deliver a secure supply of electricity for Irish homes and businesses at prices that are both affordable and stable. They could also deliver large numbers of local jobs if we develop Galway Port as the main west coast hub for the construction and maintenance of these new offshore wind farms.

Éirígí’s plan for the public ownership, development and control of Ireland’s renewable resources is the only one that can deliver a low carbon economy, energy security and stable, affordable energy prices. I ‘d encourage anyone who wants to find out more about our analysis and our plans to come along to the meeting in Richardsons Bar at 7pm on Monday, October 14th.”
