Photo Gallery Of Commemorations For Victims Of RIC

The many victims of the RIC and other British terror organisations were remembered in Dublin, Galway, Westmeath and Wexford over the course of last weekend. The Éirígí organised wreath-laying events were in response to the Dublin government’s, now scrapped, proposal to hold a commemorative event for the RIC.

In Athlone, Dundrum, Galway, Lusk and Athlone wreaths were laid to remember all who died at the hands of the RIC, Black & Tans, Auxiliaries, British Army and other unofficial British death squads.

Since 2006 Éirígí For A New Republic has consistently opposed the political establishment's attempts to rewrite Ireland’s history in a way that whitewashes the horrors of British colonialism and undermines Ireland’s revolutionary past. And we will continue to do so into the future.

In Dundrum in South Dublin a wreath was laid on the grave of James Burke who died during the massacre in Croke Park on Bloody Sunday.

In Galway a wreath was laid at the Liam Mellows monument. As one of the great socialist republican leaders of the revolutionary period, Mellows well understood the true nature of the RIC and British terror in Ireland.
