Clashes At Shell-To-Sea And Natural Resources Protests

This week has seen further violent Garda attacks on activists campaigning against Shell’s proposed gas pipeline in Co. Mayo. Their actions have shown, once again, the lengths to which Shell and its State allies, are willing to go to push through the theft of Ireland's natural resources.

Monday afternoon saw Gardaí violently removed protesters attempting to stop the illegal instalment of a Shell security portacabin on the land of publican Paddy McGrath near Pollathomais, close to the Bellanaboy gas terminal.

As a crowd of Shell to Sea campaigners, friends and neighbours gathered to protest, approximately 40 Gardaí in a paddy wagons, jeeps, cars and even marine vessels arrived and began to attempt to violently remove the protesters. 20 members and supporters of the campaign were injured by Gardaí during the attempt to block the arrival of the security porta-cabin.
