Shell Lock Down Employees

Shell Lock Down Employees

Éirígí activists were part of a group of a dozen Dublin Shell to Sea activists who, today, held a picket of Shell headquarters. The picket was themed ‘Tell on Shell’ and was aimed at encouraging Shell employees to contact the campaign confidentially, with information regarding Shells intentions in relation to the controversial Corrib gas project.

Amazingly, Shell locked their own employees in to their headquarters to prevent them from reading the leaflets being distributed by the Shell to Sea activists. Security staff padlocked the car-park entrance, and the main pedestrian entrance to the building was kept locked. In what can only be described as a theatrical performance, security staff escorted Shell employees across a deserted car-park and through the padlocked gates.

In total, Shell executives put the building under a self-imposed lock-down for over 90 minutes during this peaceful event, denying their own staff members access to an outside lunch break. And all this to prevent their staff from hearing an alternative version of events in Erris.
