Éirígí Is Tracking The Vulture Takeover Of Housing - Can You Help?

Éirígí For A New Republic has launched a new online project to track the vulture takeover of Irish housing. Launched on Monday (October 19), #TrackTheVultures will see the party build a comprehensive, publicly accessible database of every vulture-owned housing development in Ireland.

Speaking in relation to the #TrackTheVultures initiative Cathaoirleach Éirígí Brian Leeson said, “The Irish housing landscape has been transformed by the arrival of vulture landlords. Every aspect of housing, including land prices, house prices and rental rates have been negatively impacted.

Operating through a mixture of trusts, funds, REITs and other financial vehicles these modern day absentee landlords have already taken ownership of thousands of Irish homes, but nobody knows exactly how many.

The #TrackTheVultures project aims to identify every vulture-owned housing development in Ireland and compile that information into a database that will be free and publicly available online. And beyond that we intend to identify and log every vulture landlord housing development that is either under construction or in the process of seeking planning permission.

In the battle for housing justice, information is power and the #TrackTheVultures project is going to deliver some explosive, detailed information about the scale of the vulture takeover of housing.

While our activists have already compiled a lot of information relating to the larger vulture landlords, we believe that there are smaller players that we have yet to identify.

So we are asking people to get in touch with us with any information they might have in relation to vulture landlords that are operating in any part of Ireland. Together we can expose what’s really going on in the housing sector in this country.”
