Éirígí To Host ‘Power To The People’ Public Meeting In Athlone On Tues, Nov 8th
Éirígí For A New Republic is set to host an energy crisis-themed public meeting in Athlone on Tuesday, November 8th. Cathaoirleach Éirígí Brian Leeson will be the main speaker at the meeting, which will start at 7.30pm in Venue 4 on Bastion Street in the midland town. Speaking from Athlone Éirígí’s local representative. Mickey Moran, said,
“Over the last twelve months electricity, natural gas, home heating oil, petrol and diesel prices have all skyrocketed to unprecedented levels. These price increases are already causing very real pain for families all across Ireland. That pain is set to get much worse as we head into the colder, darker winter months.
The political establishment - which includes both the government and so called opposition - are refusing to even consider the steps that need to be taken to deliver long-term, secure, affordable energy for Irish homes and businesses. Instead they are putting forward short-term proposals that will transfer billions of euros of public money to Big Energy companies that are already earning super profits.

Éirígí is hosting this public meeting in Athlone to give people from the town and the surrounding areas an opportunity to hear the truth about the energy crisis - to hear how the energy policies of successive governments have squandered Ireland’s energy potential and left us at the mercy of Big Energy.
In his contribution, Brian Leeson will show how control of Ireland’s natural gas, oil and renewable energy resources was handed to the private sector over the course of several decades, resulting in the disastrous consequences that we are seeing today.
He will also map out the steps that need to be taken to take back control of our energy resources and to deliver secure, affordable energy for this and future generations of our people.
