Everyone Who Attended Golf Dinner Must Be Removed From Public Office
Éirígí For A New Republic is calling for every public-office holder that attended the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner to resign or be removed from office without delay. Speaking in relation to the breaking scandal Cathaoirleach Éirígí Brian Leeson said,
“The picture that is emerging from the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner in Galway marks a new low for the political establishment in this state. The entire event speaks to the breathtaking arrogance of a capitalist political establishment that has ruled without interruption for almost a century.
By their actions it is clear that they literally believe there is one law for them and one law for the rest of us. I would take the apologies of those who attended the dinner with a very large pinch of salt. The only thing they regret is getting caught.
Packing so many people into one room, with or without partitions, for a social event of this type was a gross insult to every Irish family that has been denied a traditional funeral for a loved one, to every front-liner who is battling the virus, to every worker who has lost their job and to every one of us that have made so many sacrifices, big and small, over the last five months.
Those who hold public office need to lead by example and be held to the highest standards. This dinner has undermined the fight against Covid-19 more than any other single event in the last five months.
Éirígí is calling for every public office holder who attended this dinner to resign from public life without delay. This includes TDs, Senators, Judges, EU Commissioners and all others who hold any form of public office. Those who refuse to resign should be removed where this is possible.
Anything less will rightly bee seen as political damage-limitation, resulting an even greater undermining of the fight against the virus.”
