Repeal Referendum To Be Held In Twenty Six Counties
The new Twenty Six County Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, has today announced that a referendum on repealing the eight amendment will be held in 2018. This follows the Citizens Assembly recommendations from April, which voted to replace or amend the amendment.
Éirígí recognises the inherent right of all people to control their own bodies, including their reproductive organs and reproductive processes. Therefore, we support the right to unimpeded access to free, safe and legal terminations of unwanted pregnancies.
Today's news represents a huge opportunity to finally, once and for all, remove the archaic eight amendment. We in Éirígí are willing to play our part in ensuring that happens.
