There was standing room only at the official launch of Damien Farrell’s local election campaign on Friday last (March 8th) in Harkin’s Bar in Dublin’s South West Inner City. The event, which was chaired by Éirígí’s Vicky White, was addressed by two guest speakers. First up was Gina Nicoletti of Altogether Now, a homeless outreach group that Damien helped establish back in 2016. In her contribution Gina highlighted the tireless energy that Damien has contributed to an initiative that has provided food, drinks, clothing, sleeping bags, tents and other supports to many hundreds of victims of the state-sponsored housing crisis.
The second speaker was Brendan Condron of Crumlin Says No To Water Charges and Meters. Brendan recounted his many encounters with Damien during the campaign of peaceful direct action to prevent water meter installations, including one occasion where Damien stopped an entire meter installation team on his own. The image of Damien with one foot under the bucket of a digger while calling for support on his mobile phone drew laughs from the room.
Both Gina and Breandan’s contributions repeatedly returned to the theme of Damien’s determination, courage, high work rate and humanity. For thirty years Damien has fought for the rights of his country and his community, standing against discrimination and exploitation of all types.
Damien is one of three candidates that Éirígí will be running in Dublin in May’s local election. His campaign in the Dublin South West Inner City electoral area is already in full swing. If you are in a position to help out please give Damien a call today on 085 2708970.
