March For A Decent Public Health Service

March For A Decent Public Health Service

The Dublin Council of Trade Unions and the ICTU Youth Committee have organised a rally calling for an adequate public health service.

The rally will take place on Saturday March 29 at 3pm and will assemble at the Garden of Remembrance in Parnell Square in the city centre. It will proceed through the city centre before ending at Molesworth Street. Numerous speakers including representatives from trade unions, health professionals, patients’ groups and health and hospital campaigns groups will address the demonstrators.

Éirígí spokesperson, Daithí Mac an Mhaistír said that éirígí will be demonstrating their support for this immensely important campaign and called on parties and individuals to follow suit.

“We call on all people frustrated by the lack of a decent public health service in the Twenty-Six Counties to actively show their disgust by joining this crucial campaign.

“One of the key duties of any state is to provide an adequate and free health care system. The Twenty-Six County administration fails on both fronts. Ministers in Leinster house will continue to privatise and run down life-saving services within the health service if we do not begin to challenge and change the current gross example of a health service.

“In a country as wealthy as our own, one would feel that the health service would be top of any governmental agenda. This is patently not the case and we citizens are forced to take to the streets to challenge the ridiculous cost-cutting and profit-making measures increasingly seeping into our public services.

“We all depend on an adequate health service. We should all therefore demand such a service, as of right, on Saturday in Dublin.

“Bígí linn.”
