Damien Farrell Local Election Launch, Friday, March 8th

The official launch of Damien Farrell’s local election campaign will take place on Friday, March 8th. The Éirígí candidate for the Dublin South West Inner City previously stood for election in 2014. In the intervening five years Damien has worked tirelessly for the benefit of both his community and his country. Five years which followed a quarter of century of political and community activism.

Throughout his entire adult life Damien has fought against injustice and exploitation; for his fellow workers as a trade union shop steward; for the besieged nationalist community in the Six Counties; for his neighbours and the wider community of Dublin’s South Inner City.

In the five years since the last local election Damien has been to fore of many political campaigns at a national and local level, including:

  • The campaign to defeat the Water Tax by building support for the boycott of this unjust tax and by blocking the installation of water meters.

  • Save Moore Street, including participating in the occupation of the historic buildings

  • Repeal the 8th Amendment, including leafleting and canvassing in the local area

  • Fighting for a new system of Universal Public Housing to permanently end the housing crisis

  • Providing food, drinks, clothing and other supports to the homeless via the ‘Altogether Now’ outreach project

  • Working with the community to combat anti-social behaviour and home burgaries

  • Proposing solution to counter the negative impact of the construction of the new National Children’s Hospital

  • Campaigning for the Children’s Hospital to be named to honour Dr Kathleen Lynn

  • Opposing the privatisation of the public transport system

  • Supporting striking workers including the nurses, Lloyds Pharmacy workers, Tesco workers and others

Few candidates in the state, nevermind Dublin South West Inner City, have given so much of their time and energy to advance the cause of the working class and the Irish republican struggle as Damien Farrell has. Should Damien win a seat in May’s election, he will use for the benefit of his class and his country.

The election launch will begin at 8.30pm at Harkin’s Bar on Echlin Street on Dublin 8. It’s an open event, so please come along and show your support for an election candidate that has proven he is committed to maximum change.
