Éirígí For A New Republic Honours Ireland’s Patriot Dead

Easter is a time when people gather in communities all across Ireland to pay tribute to our Patriot Dead. From north to south, east to west, Éirígí activists played their part in honouring those who fought and died for Irish freedom.

For more than a century, Easter has been a period of remembrance, reflection, and renewed dedication for Irish republicans. The earliest Easter commemorations, held in the years following the 1916 Rising, naturally centered on honouring the republican dead of that pivotal event.

The national scope of Éirígí’s wreath layings.

Over time, however, these commemorations expanded to also pay tribute to those who fought and gave their lives for Irish freedom both before and after the 1916 Rising, in the centuries long struggle for an Irish Republic.

Éirígí is proud to play its part in honouring Ireland’s Patriot Dead, and in the fight for a new, all-Ireland Republic for which they died.
