View The New UP Housing Video - Then Join The Fight For A Housing Revolution!

Éirígí For A New Republic has produced a new ninety-second UP Housing animated video. The release of the video, which can be view below, follows on two UP Housing public meetings in Athlone, Co Westmeath and Donaghmede in Dublin last week.

UP Housing, or Universal Public Housing, is a proposed new model of housing that would see the state provide secure, affordable, high-quality housing for everyone that is in need of a home. UP Housing is fundamentally different to ‘social housing’ because it would be open to everyone, regardless of their income.

UP Housing wouldn’t just end the current housing crisis. It would also transform Irish society by ending income-segregated housing, by reducing wealth inequality and breaking down class barriers. UP Housing would also end the nefarious political influence of land-speculators, developers, bankers and landlords on Irish society.

None of the political parties with representation in Leinster House or Stormont support UP Housing yet. Instead they remain wedded to current failed model of housing, an approach that can only lead to greater social division, wealth inequality and human suffering. Housing justice will not be won through tweaks of the current system. UP Housing is the big fix’ that can deliver a housing revolution and affordable, secure homes for all.

The state has the land, finances, expertise and legal powers to make UP Housing a reality. The only thing that is missing is political will to make it happen. We can all help build that political will through building support for UP housing within the community, trade unions, women’s groups and the grassroots of political parties.

Over the last few months a full suite of UP Housing campaign materials have been produced, including stickers, leaflets, posters, banners, pop-ups, petition sheets etc. Public meetings have been organised in a number of areas and more are planned for the future. Information and petition stalls are also being organised within communities on a regular basis. This real-world activity is complimented by a growing online operation to explain and encourage support for UP Housing. All of these activities are the tested and proven tools of campaign building.
