Galway To Protest Against Apartheid Israel

RE/Max Office, Friday, 26th July

Éirígí Gaillimh are organising a Boycott, Divest, Sanction (BDS) picket outside the RE/MAX office in Eyre Square at 4pm on Friday the 26th of July.

RE/MAX is one of the largest real estate corporations in the world, whose operations include the marketing and selling of properties in illegal Israeli settlements on stolen Palestinian land.  Encouraging people to attend the picket, Éirígí Galway representative, Ian Ó Dálaigh, said,

We’ve called this picket to give the people of Galway a chance to show solidarity with the people of Palestine, and to send a direct message to those who facilitate Israel’s colonisation of the West Bank. We’ve chosen to picket RE/MAX as the company is both profiting from and complicit in the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land.

The people of Palestine have been suffering under brutal colonial occupation for decades. It didn’t start in October 2023 - but events since then have seen a huge surge in support across the world for the cause of Palestinian freedom.

This huge surge of international support and solidarity needs to be built on in order to bring the Zionist regime to a halt. One of the most effective ways we can do this is by supporting the BDS movement.

Ó Dálaigh continued,

The people of Ireland well understand the concept of a boycott - with the term boycott having come into existence following an early 1880s tenants struggle in County Mayo against English land agent, Charles Cunningham Boycott.

During The Tan War, RIC members, the families of RIC members and anyone who interacted with the RIC were subject to a widespread and highly successful boycott.

In 1984, the Dunnes Stores workers who refused to handle Apartheid South African goods gave hope and inspiration to those who were struggling against the apartheid regime.

Today, we ALL must refuse to buy goods and services originating from the Apartheid state of Israel, along with goods and services from those companies who support the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

Join us outside the RE/MAX office in Eyre Square on Friday, 26th July at 4pm and add your voice to the global call to boycott Apartheid Israel!

Our comrades in Dublin will be organising another Boycott RE/MAX picket in the coming weeks - we will announce full details in due course.
