Éirígí Ends Use Of X (Formerly Twitter)
Éirígí - For A New Republic has made the decision to shut down our account on X (formerly known as Twitter) from the 14th of January, meaning we will no longer be maintaining a presence on the social media platform.
This decision was made in light of the platform recently developing a feature, through its Artificial Intelligence tool ‘Grok’, which allows users to create non-consensual, AI ‘deepfake’ images of women, along with the production of AI ‘deepfake’ images of child sexual abuse. This is in addition to the platform actively promoting far-right talking points, and encouraging endemic levels of racism, homophobia and misogyny.
Éirígí has been a user of the platform for a number of years now, beginning in January 2013. In more recent times it has become evident that the platform, which was bought by Elon Musk in 2022, is now nothing more than a tool to promote the most visceral forms of hatred and bigotry, which has had a devastating real world impact.
In light of the issues outlined above, we believe we cannot in good conscience maintain a presence on the platform.
