Racism And Sectarianism - Two Sides Of The Same Coin
In the aftermath of the annual sectarian hatefest known by some as ‘The Glorious Twelfth’, the appearance of identical anti-immigration banners at various hate pyre sites in Mid-Ulster again exposes the links between Unionist death squads and their far-right bedfellows, both in the Twenty-Six Counties and further afield.
Unionist death squads in mid-Ulster were responsible for many of the worst atrocities during the war in the Six Counties. Their murderous campaign also extended to the Twenty-Six Counties, with Dublin, Dundalk, Monaghan, Belturbet and other towns being targeted by no-warning bombings which killed scores and injured hundreds.
Over the years, various Unionist death squads have actively sought support from English fascists. During the Drumcree crisis and the Orange Order's attempts to break the resolve of the Garvaghy Road community in Portadown during the late 1990's/early 2000's, leading Unionist death squads were often seen in the company of known members of the Neo-Nazi Combat 18 group.
